SEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER Seattle, WA ………………………………………….. 1998 – 2009

National/Foreign Desk Editor

My primary responsibility was to choose and edit national and international stories for Page One and the inside pages. I also wrote stories and opinion pieces.

Also, for eight years I was part of a program that brought a foreign journalist to the P-I to work and learn about U.S.-style journalism. I acted as mentor to the visiting journalist, going to D.C. to participate in an orientation program at the beginning of the visit and going again for an evaluation at the end of the five-month program. During the journalist’s stay at the P-I, I was the primary editor and oversaw all aspects of the program.

Overseas work-related trips at the P-I have included Iraq (three times), Honduras, Mongolia, Lebanon, Syria (twice), Taiwan, Indonesia and Bangladesh. A number of stories were award-winning, and many sparked considerable community interest as well as radio and TV interviews, City Club appearances and other speaking engagements.
